REVIEW: Bumble & Bumble Surf Shampoo and Conditioner

photo-13

When you look at the reviews for what is the best product to use to get the soft, tousled beach look it all points to Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Spray. So, logically after 12 years of it being on the market it made sense for the company to launch this new addition to the their surf line.

I’m been waiting to try the new Bumble and Bumble Surf line for a while now, and when I noticed that Sephora had it as a trial size I jumped on the offer. I’ve only used it once, but I have to say it lived up to my expectations. It smells amazing, fresh and botanical to give you that nostalgic beach feeling.

The shampoo is very light, and the conditioner is very creamy. I have very fine hair, so this is not something that I would use on a daily basis because it can be heavy on my hair. But, the results were really good. Mixed with the surf spray, I did have very soft waves with little effort.

So what are some of the key benefits?

  • The shampoo cleanses to wipe out impurities, so hair can be squeaky clean and ready for styling. It has a blend of minerals which helps build body and enhances natural texture while hydrating sea botanicals give a touch of softness.
  • The conditioner gently de-tangles and hydrates hair without weighing it down.

It’s not sulfate free so for those of you who color or treat your hair be careful. Also, to get this beachy look the product does contain salt so it can eventually dry out your hair. This is another reason I wouldn’t recommend using it on a daily basis.

My only main issue was the price, $28.00 at Sephora for the travel set. However, if you don’t use it everyday it may last you for a while. I plan on using it at least once a week depending on the weather and the occasion.

Here are my tips on how to get the most out of these products:

  1. Before you wash your hair, make sure you comb it out.
  2. Wash with the shampoo, I usually lather and rinse twice.
  3. Before you apply the conditioner, make sure you squeeze all the excess water our of hair. This way the conditioner can be applied with out any extra water on your hair. Otherwise, it will water it down.
  4. Towel dry your hair.
  5. Spray your locks with the Surf spray.
  6. Here is the trick, use a diffuser and flip your hair over. Take segments by focusing on sections of your hair that are bunched up and held to your scalp for a couple seconds with the diffuser and the let it go.
  7. Repeat until your hair is dry and secure with hairspray.

There you go! So, if you’re craving summer perfect waves, this line is definitely worth a try.

I’m officially a Maven!

So, I caved and joined another club. However, I’m really excited about this one. It’s from Julep nail polish, and when you join you become a Maven. This means, I get 20% off all products for $19.99 a month. Each month, they will send me two nail polishes and a surprise gift.

Like most sample clubs, you fill out a profile and they will decide your personal style. I was selected as Boho Glam, which suits me perfectly. I also like that they will send you a preview before your box ships, if you don’t like the style you can choose to skip the month, try a new style or send to a friend. Those are very fair and flexible options.

I LOVE the colors I received this month, they compliment each other nicely. I can easily use one for my hands and one for my toes. You don’t have to become a Maven, you can shop the site for each product as well. But, in my opinion based on their prices it’s more cost effective to join. You also have the option to buy a box once.

Here’s the scoop:

The nail polish is made using their “4-free” concept, this means it doesn’t contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, DBP and no animal testing. They claim that their polish is high shine, chip resistant and fast drying. I’ve used the gel polish for way too long, so this is going to be a healthy switch for me.

They have what they call parlors in Washington state, nothing on the East coast yet. I did check out their stores, and I love the way they’re set up. Very inviting, with a nice clean design.

Here is a link to their FAQ’s if you want to learn more.

So, here is what I got! The Boho Glam intro box:

Etta - Priced at $11.99, A art deco green polish that is going to look amazing on my toes. She is now out of stock if you want to just buy her separately. But, if you sign up to become a Maven or order the box you’re guaranteed the polish.

Millie - Priced at $11.99, a vintage indigo crème color that will look nice on my hands.

Glycolic Hand Scrub: Priced at $18.99, a facial for your hands. It helps to remove dirt and oil from your hands before you start your manicure. This is now out of stock as well, but again if you sign up to become a Maven or order the Boho Glam box you will be guaranteed the product.

I received my Sample Society box on time as usual, that is one of the main reasons why I stick with this subscription they’re very consistent. What I also adore about this box is the free subscription to Allure Magazine, and I can’t mention enough how they include the $15 off coupon. To me that is wash on the cost of the box, plus some of the great items that you receive every month. You do get your money back.

This month’s box focuses on summer (of course) and comes with a great insert from Allure on various topics like Makeup (coral again, a huge trend this season) Skin facials, best close shave secrets, hair and a whole section on trends.

Who doesn’t love the “O”?

I have to admit I was a little skeptical and definitely “blushed” when the Sephora consultant told me to go with this shade made from NARS.

It’s called “Orgasm” and it’s peachy pink sheer color gives me a perfect golden shimmer. After doing some research, I found that it’s has received amazing reviews and has won the award for best blush by Allure multiple years in a row. What rock have I been living under?

Here’s the scoop:

1. Based on my experience and research, I can without a doubt say it looks good on my skin tone whether I’m pale or with a summer glow.

2. You don’t need to use a lot, just a light dusting and trust me it will stay with you all day.

3. It’s won the best of beauty award by Allure 2004 - 2008. It went into their hall of fame in 2011. And, it’s been chosen as their Reader’s Choice Award for 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, and 2002.

4. It’s priced at $29.99, however if you stick with what I said and don’t use a lot. It will last, I bought mine in March and I’m not even close to running out.

5. The only downside is when someone will ask you what the name of the color is ;)

I’m sure this is not the first blog you will find ranting about this blush, if you use other Nars blush colors, which one do you love? If you never tried one, I highly recommend this color. Enjoy!

Glossy Box - May 2013 Review

I’m finally writing about my May Glossy box, and once again I’m completely impressed. This month’s theme is all around “A year of beauty, one year of celebration”. The Glossy box mag is packed with glimpses inside the make up bags of their chic friends across the pond. There is also a section that is inspired of the Gatsby headpieces that dazzle to every girl’s type of look. I also love the lash lush section, which focuses on Xtreme Lashes®. Lastly, there are sections around coral, my favorite summer color and some great showcases on bronzing powders and sunscreens. Take a look:

Next up, the amazing products:

IMG_0683

Epionce - It’s an intense anti-aging repair serum. Packed with vitamins A, B, C, D & E. I’m definitely going to try it out and see if really does prevent the signs of aging. Full size worth $136.00

IMG_0684

European Wax Center - Two samples The EXFOLIATE (full size $38.00) and The BODY LOTION (full size $20.00) + A free wax for first time guests.Which usually runs from $38 - $48 for a bikini wax. It just so happens there is a place right by me in NY (Massapequa) waxcenter.com . So, I’m going to check it out. Perfect timing for Summer.

ModelCo Lip Duo - I did receive this sample once before and I loved it. My only grip is that the mirror on the side of the product is positioned backwards. It should be flipped so you can actually use while you’re applying the product. But, it’s a great find. It’s a creamy lip gloss on one side and a soft lip stick on the other side. Perfectly matched. Full Size (which is what I got) $39.00

Nicka K New York - Solid perfume stick. This is great to carry around, my only fear is it’s summer and it may melt in my purse. The smell is light and fresh, and I LOVE the packaging. They have other products, like perfume for your hair. So chic! Full Size (which is what I got) $14.99

Sebastian Professional - Volupt Spray, which is a spray gel which is supposed to offer full volume and softness. I’m intrigued, I’m going to try it and let you know the outcome. The best part, is Ulta sent me a coupon for 20% a purchase of the full size. The real full size price is $19.95

Once again, I’m truly impressed with the products I received for just $22.00 a month. I really recommend that you try it for one month. They also have options where you can send boxes as a gift. The concept is great and so are the products. Discover GLOSSYBOX
